Mrs. Alice T. Shafer age 74 of Newaygo, Michigan died Sunday November 3, 2002 at her residence in Newaygo. She was born Alice Theresa Schleter in Tiffin, Ohio the daughter of Emma (Giesken) and George Schleter on October 03, 1928. She married William D. Shafer on August 4, 1951 in Tiffin, Ohio. She was retired as a Cook for Newaygo Public Schools and was a communicant of St. Bartholomew Catholic Church in Newaygo. She is survived by her husband William Shafer her children Anita & Blaine Speese, William Shafer all of Newaygo, David & Mary Shafer of White Cloud, MI, John Shafer & Becky Taylor of Scottville, MI, Angela & Jim Buttleman of White Cloud, MI, twin daughters Laura & Curt Veersma of Big Rapids, MI, Linda & Kevin Hook of Council Bluff, IA, daughter-in-law Brenda Shafer of Grant, MI, fourteen grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, her brother Arthur & Margaret Schleter of Tiffin, OH. She was preceded in death by her son Philip Shafer in 1988, her brother Joseph Schleter, and sisters Angela Renninger & Ella Hoover. The Funeral Liturgy will be held at 1:00 P. M. from the St. Bartholomew Catholic Church, Newaygo on Thursday, November 7, 2002 with her nephew Fr. Ed Schleter and Father Loc Trinh officiating. Interment will be in the St. Bartholomew Cemetery. A Scripture service will be held Wednesday at 7:00 P. M. at McKinley Newaygo Chapel. Visitation will be held Wednesday, 2-4 & 7-9 P. M. at funeral home.
