Mrs. Oleva Smith, age 93 of Sand Lake formerly of Ensley Center, died Monday, November 10, 2003 in Cedar Springs. She was born Oleva Backus in Grant the daughter of Fannie (Anderson) and Charles Emory Backus on May 10, 1910. She married Fred G. Smith on August 24, 1927 in Grand Rapids and he preceded her in death on July 16, 1967. She was a homemaker all her life. She attended Sand Lake United Methodist Church. She played many instruments in several "Old Timers" bands.
