Mrs. Gustel L. Bechler, beloved wife of Erich, age 94 of Newaygo, Croton Township, formerly of Grand Rapids, died peacefully Wednesday, April 7, 2004 at her home. She was born Gustel Lisette Muermer in Hiesseld, Dinkelaken, Germany the daughter of Friedrich and Elise Muermer on December 1, 1909. She married Erich Bechler in July, 1935 in Germany. She was a Co-Owner & Accountant with her husband of German Car Service, Grand Rapids until 1974. She and her husband came to the United States in 1952 and she was of the Catholic faith, a member of the Porsche Club, very active in the community in many things and was known as "The Flower Lady" by all because of her exceptional gardens. She attended Ferris Institute in Big Rapids receiving her Associate degree in Accounting. Upon retirement Gustel and Erich took up permanent residence in their lovely home overlooking Croton Pond. We lost a good friend and will miss her gourmet cooking. She had a true zest for life and none of us will ever forget her contagious laugh.

She will be missed dearly by her husband Erich, her adopted family Ute & Hans Joachim Päpke of Cincinnati, OH, and their daughters Annette & Jeff Kern, Evelyn & Tom Daumeyer, Michele & Doug Westrich, as well as her many friends.
