Nathan Winick, aged 89, died Wednesday, November 24, 2004.  He was born May 22,1915 in Grand Rapids, Michigan to George and Rose (Marshak) Winick who had immigrated from Minsk, Russia. Everyone who knew Nate liked him. He was a kind and generous man who will always be remembered for his humor and fairness. He lived a long and happy life filled with the love of family and friends.

 

Nate attended Grand Rapids Union High School (class of ‘33), and was a long-time business owner in Grand Rapids and Croton Dam (Winick’s Driftwood Resort).  He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II and his adopted home in Newaygo County as a Croton Township Trustee for many years.

 

Nate was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Myer (Mike) Winick. He is survived by his wife of forty-nine years, Lucille (Straub), his children and their families: Roy (Molly) Berggren of Mesa, AZ; Bob (Debbie Burke) Berggren of Ada; Cathy (Martin Hillard) Winick of Grand Rapids; and Michael (Laura) Winick of Rockford; his sister Peggy deVries of Lake Leelanau; and several nieces and nephews.

 

Funeral services will be held at 11 am Monday, November 29 at McKinley Funeral Home in Newaygo. Interment will be at Oak Grove Cemetery, Croton Township. Visitation will be held Sunday, November 28, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm at the funeral home. For Memorials please consider the American Heart Association or the American Lung Association.  Military Honors under the auspices of the Croton American Legion Post #381.
