Mrs. Leira (Connie) Nickett, Age 84 of Newaygo, went to be with her Lord, Sunday, September 25, 2005 from Fountainview Retirement Village in Fremont. She was born Leira Conover Harrison in Tiffin, Ohio the daughter of Jenny (Long) and Foster Edward Harrison on November 5, 1920. She married Dale Blush in 1938 and he preceded her in death on October 1, 1951. She then married Sam Sharpe in 1957 and he preceded her in death on March 23, 1964. She then married Carl Nickett in 1966 and he preceded her in death December 18, 1991. She was a Cook for Oakridge Restaurant, Newaygo until her retirement.
Her zest for life and great sense of humor will be sadly missed by her surviving family and friends: her granddaughters Charmaine & Glenn Botma of Grant, Jackie & Gary Taft; her great-grandchildren Rachal & Chris Gort of Newaygo; Nicole Botma of Grant; Raymond Botma of Grant; Gary Taft, Jr.; Angela & Ben Mattice; her great-great-grandsons Mason & Caleb Gort; her very special niece Lynn (Webb) Lazarte; and her very special friend Lila Sheldon. She was preceded in death her daughter Bonnie Playter; her husbands Dale Blush in 1951; Sam Sharpe in 1964; Carl Nickett in 1991; step-daughter Patsy Lee Wood; and her brothers & sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P. M. from the McKinley Grant Chapel, Grant on Friday, September 30, 2005 with Pastor Doug Bretschneider officiating. Interment in Ashland Center Cemetery near Grant. Visitation will be held 11:30 A. M. - 1:00 P. M. Friday. For Memorials please consider Hospice of Michigan-Newaygo Co..

I'm sorry that I didn't read the paper until a week later, when I was searching for an unrelated item. I recognized the last name and read on. I'm very sorry to hear about "grandma Connie" and am a little ashamed to say that I havn't seen any of you in just years! The only family members that would probably remember me would be Jackie and Charmain. You both have my sincere condolances. You lost your mom at such a young age. I hope you were able to be close to your grandma. I'd like to try to get ahold of you sometime. Maybe you can E-mail me. Oh...maybe it would be nice if I let you know who I am! I was able to talk to Connie this summer and enjoyed all of the stories she shared with me about her life with Carl. Sounds like they enjoyed life to the fullest. I am a distant cousin of Carl's and called Connie to find out more about Carl's family. Thanks for the memories Connie. Carolceder@tm.net
