Mr. Marvin Clarence Penland, Age 77 of Newaygo died Saturday, March 05, 2005 in Grand Rapids. He was born Marvin Clarence Penland in Newaygo at Siders Landing, the son of Bertha Madeline (Siders) and John Franklin Penland on September 22, 1927. He married Marian Jean Curtis on September 8, 1951 in Sparta. They were married for 53 years. He was an Auto Mechanic, a Carpenter and also a Custodian for Newaygo Public Schools until he retired in 1990. He enjoyed taking trips, spending time with family, puttering in his workshop, and his daily walks thru Newaygo. He will be remembered by his family for all the on-call work and special projects performed and on the phone advice. He was a veteran having served in the Army during World War II from January 09, 1946 to December 07, 1946 when he was discharged as a Private. He is survived by his wife Marian Penland of Newaygo, his children Patricia Heitman of Mt. Pleasant, Christine E. Penland of Mt. Pleasant, Kenneth M. Penland of Spring Lake, Arlene & Rich Miller of Topeka, KS, 4 Grandchildren: Jennifer, Travis, Michael, Patrick, his brother Marshall & Phyllis Penland of Sparta, his sister Jean Penland of Grant, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents John and Bertha, Son-in-Law John Heitman in 2004. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM from the McKinley Newaygo Chapel, Newaygo on Wednesday, March 09, 2005 with Rev. Ron Johnson officiating. Interment in Newaygo Cemetery. Visitation 7-9 PM Tuesday at McKinley Newaygo Chapel.
