Mrs. Nina F. Portenga, age 65 of Grant, died Sunday, July 25, 2005 at Transitional Health Services near Fremont in Garfield Twp.. She was born Nina Faye Johnson in Muskegon, the daughter of Edith Iva (Stoken) and Harold Arthur Johnson on May 8, 1940. She married Eugene LeRoy Portenga on December 18, 1980 in Muskegon, and he preceded her in death on March 19, 1986. She was a Bus Driver for Headstart in Newaygo County until 2005 and also was employed by the Foster Grandparents of Newaygo County.
She is survived by her daughter Teresa & Frank Donat of Bailey, her grandchildren Jamie Donat, Darcy Donat, and Amy Bentley, 4 great-grandchildren, her brothers & sisters Dale & Edith Johnson of Kent City, Jim & Lee Johnson of Spring Lake, Don & Joan Johnson of Sparta, Ron & Chris Johnson of Sparta, Kurt & Linda Johnson of Kent City, Lois & Tony Vasilauskas of Comstock Park, Shirley Cegelis of Sparta, Beverly Goebel of Ravenna, Karen & Jim Gerwig of Spring Lake.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A. M at the Idlewild Cemetery near Kent City, on Thursday, July 28, 2005 with Ms Jamie Donat officiating. Visitation will be held 7-9 P. M. Wednesday at McKinley Grant Chapel.

Grandma I miss you so much. I know that you come around me the kids often. I know that you can see your great grand-daughter, but I truly wish you were here to see how beautiful she is and hold her in your arms. I wish she was blessed with knowing you the way that Eli was, but you have my promise she will know you through Mom, Darcy, and I, and you have my word that Eli will never forget you and the memories that you have instilled in his life.
