Mrs. Shirley R. Gallapoo, aged 64, of Newaygo, died Sunday December 17, 2006 at Spectrum Health Services-Butterworth Campus in Grand Rapids. She was born Shirley Rae Gerken October 17, 1942 in Grand Rapids, the daughter of Mary (Visser) and Ray Gerken. She married Dale Robert Gallapoo March 19, 1960 in Grand Rapids and she was a Real Estate Agent in the area for 25 years retiring in 2004. Mrs. Gallapoo was a communicant of St. Bartholomew Catholic Church in Newaygo.

She is survived by her husband Dale, her children Pamela & Kelly Beerman, Brenda Brown, Debbie & Dan Mayle, Dale Jr., all of Newaygo, her grandchildren Amanda, Kelly Jr., Heather, Chrystal, Danny, Critter, Aaron, Brittany, Tommy, Nathan, Jake, her great-grandchildren Alex, Lydia and baby Beerman, her sisters and brother Joann & Andy Hendrick, Mary & Jim Culliname, John & Barb Alanowski, many very special nieces & nephew, special friend & neighbor Sandy Hayes. She was preceded in death her children Timmy & Angel and great-grandson Mason.

Funeral Mass will be held 11:00 AM, Wednesday, December 20, 2006 at the St. Bartholomew Catholic Church in Newaygo with Father Tom Boufford as Celebrant. Visitation will be held 2-4 & 7-9 PM Tuesday at the McKinley Newaygo Chapel with a Rosary at 9:00 PM. Interment will be in the Newaygo Cemetery. I am so sorry to hear this of Shirley. Her and I worked together at the Ipper Elementary and I am so sorry. I know that this lady will be watching over all her childern and husband and the rest of her family. She was a very nice and good person and I am so happy to have worked with her and been her friend. To Shirley'sFamily. I was sorry to hear of her passing. Shirley was an energetic person. She cared about Newaygo. I remember many hours we spent working for the Newaygo Chamber and the Newaygo Expo.
