Mr. Robert John Veurink, age 76, of Grant, MI went to be with his Lord on Sat., Dec 22, 2007. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a strong man who lived and instilled in his family his priorities in life – God – family – work.

Bob began farming after graduating from Grant High School in 1950, raising carrots, parsnips, peppermint and other vegetables. Because of his love for farming, he continued to farm until he retired in 2004. He was a lifelong member of the Grant Christian Reformed Church, serving several terms on the church council. He was also a trustee for Grant Township for many years.

Bob is survived by his wife of 48 years - Alvena Ann (Geerdes); four children - Cheryl Boose, John (Janet) Veurink, Shirlene (Dean) VanderWest, and Norma Veurink; nine grandchildren, two great-grandsons; four brothers – William (Maxine), Dan (Mary), Gary (Sally), and Paul (Winnie); two sisters – Gloria (Stan) VanSingel and Beth (Arie) Veenje; numerous nephews and nieces, lifelong friends Rich & Marie Dragt and Herb & Donna VanWylen, and many close friends and neighbors.

Both the visitation and the funeral will be held at the Grant Christian Reformed Church. Visitation will be on Wed. Dec. 26 from 2 – 4 pm and 7 – 9 pm. The funeral service will be held on Thurs. Dec. 27 at 11:00 am. Memories and condolences may be expressed online at mckinleyfuneral.com. Memorials can be given to Grant Christian School or Hospice of Michigan.

Alevna & Family – You have my deepest sympathy; Bob was a very special man. I will always remember his dry sense of humor and all the fun times we had on your Iowa visits and when I visited you in Michigan and Arizona. I am so sorry I can't be there with you now. Love from your Iowa cousin. Vivian

Dear Alvena and family: It was an honor to work with Bob on the Grant Township Board. The Township was privileged to have Bob's common sense approach during the many years he sat on the Board as Trustee. God bless your family with His comfort as you go through this difficult time. Deb

I promise that I will stay in touch with you. May God keep you in his hands & support you & your family in this time of loss. Just always remember Alvena that he is no longer suffering or in pain. He is in a better place & building it with lots of love until you arrive to meet him again. God Bless.
