Mr. George C. Slominski, age 83 of Newaygo, joined his Lord in Heaven Friday, May 16, 2008 from his home in Newaygo. He was born George Carlton Slominski in Newaygo, the son of Anna (DeGriner) and George Edward Slominski on April 29, 1925. He was married to Norma Maye Cardinal for 62 years. He was a Service Manager for Sand Mold Systems, Newaygo. He was a communicant of St. Bartholomew Catholic Church in Newaygo. Mr. Slominski was a veteran of World War II where he proudly served his country and his flag as a Marine, being decorated with the Purple Heart and was honorably discharged.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years Norma, six children, 18 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and 2 sisters.
A Memorial Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 AM from the St. Bartholomew Catholic Church, Newaygo on Monday, May 19, 2008 with Father Tom Boufford as Celebrant. The family will greet visitors Noon to 2 PM in the Church Family Center following Mass. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the National Alzheimer’s Association and/or Heartland Hospice.

To Norma and family, George, Norma and family hold a special place in my heart. There is special kindness about them,having treated me much like one of there own kids while I attended college with Greg and Mary at Ferris. My first wilderness experience was while I was in college, and George, and Greg allowed me to be part of there annual fishing trip on the St. Mary's River in Canada. George and Norma also were responsible for assisting me in getting my first job as a pharmacy intern in Fremont. Our most sincere reguards go out to a wonderful caring family.
