Mr. Merrill J. Eady, age 91 of Grant, died Sunday, August 24, 2008 at Transitional Health Services near Fremont. He was born Merrill John Eady in Grant, the son of Rose Christina (McKinlay) and Charles Richard Eady on January 31, 1917. He married Dorothy Alverne Wolff on May 14, 1941 in Grant.
He was a District Sales Manager in the territory of Northern Lower Peninsula from Holland to Grand Rapids to Lansing north including the entire Upper peninsula for 41 years for Funk Seeds International until retiring in 1981. He was active in both Farm Bureau and Ashland Grange having held offices of Master, Lecturer and Secretary, also Master, Lecturer and Treasurer of Newaygo county Pomono Grange. He was the Legislative counsel for Michigan State Grange from 1945-1952, State Lecturer from 1952-1960 and member of the Executive Committee from 1961-1975 and several times as Chairman; Newaygo County Road Commission for 30 years until 2000 where he was Chairman several times, member of the board of Directors of the county Road Association of Michigan and president of Association in 1990-91 and president of Northern Michigan Association of Road Commissioners in 1998; helped organize and served as first Chairman of the Newaygo county Soil Conservation District; served on the Governorís Committee to study migrant housing in Michigan and on several committees projecting agriculture in Michigan for Michigan State University.
He is survived by his wife D. Alverne Eady, son Carl & Sandy Eady of Grant, daughter Betty & Ron Nelson of Portland, grandchildren Carla & Don Passage, Jean & Mike Uhl, Lisa Eady, Roger Nelson, Karen & Tory Meyers, his great-grandchildren Andrew & Logan Passage, Bailey & Lauren Uhl, Blake & Trent Meyers, his sister & brothers-in-law Donna Eady, Arlie & Florence Hibbs, Robert & Inez Wolff, and Carroll & Marge Wolff. He was preceded in death by brother Carlisle Eady and great-grandchildren Anthony Passage & Marissa Meyers.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM from the Grant United Church of Christ, on Thursday, August 28, 2008 with Rev. Dr. Marilyn Danielson officiating. Interment will be in the Ashland Center Cemetery near Grant. Visitation will be held 2-4 & 7-9 PM Wednesday at McKinley Grant Chapel.
