Mr. James C. Sokolowski, Sr., age 69 of Newaygo, died Saturday, February 9, 2008 at Spectrum Health-Butterworth Campus in Grand Rapids. He was born James Carl Sokolowski in Muskegon, the son of Florence (Johnson) and Kazimier Sam Sokolowski on June 23, 1938. He married Sharon Rae Downs on December 31, 1960 in Ravenna. He was a Welding Inspector for Neway Equipment in Muskegon until 2003. He was a member of St. Bartholomew Catholic Church.

He is survived by his wife Sharon Sokolowski, children Kenneth Sokolowski of Whitehall, James Sokolowski, Jr. of Newaygo, Steven & Nora Sokolowski of Sand Lake, Thomas & Peggy Sokolowski of Cedar Springs, Randall & Christie Sokolowski of Newaygo, Kristin & Richard Staples of Newaygo, 17 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, his brothers Sam, Dave, Willis, & Bob Sokolowski. He was preceded in death by his sister Mary Powell.

The Funeral Liturgy will be held at 11:00 AM from the St. Bartholomew Catholic Church, Newaygo on Wednesday, February 13, 2008 with Father Tom Boufford as Celebrant. Interment will be in the St. Bartholomew Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to Mass at the church. For Memorials please consider the family for funeral expenses.

Well, what can I say about Jim! He was the nicest guy you could ever meet. Always a smile on his face. I met Jim right after he moved to Newaygo; buying the trailor from my sister Mary (Ron) May. You couldn't ask for a better neighbor than Jim. He was one cool dude with Fonzie hair!! He will surely be missed by the old neighborhood.
