Mr. Joseph VanDyke, Age 81 of Grant, died Monday, May 12, 2008 at home. He was born Joseph VanDyke in Grand Rapids, Michigan the son of Winifred (VandenBrink) and John VanDyke on May 21, 1926. He married Nancy Hoeksema on December 26, 1975 in Wyoming, Michigan. He was a Truck Driver for Alger Transport until April 2007. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #4249.  He was a veteran having served in the Army during World War II from August 24, 1944 to March 27, 1947 where he earned a Bronze Star and was discharged as a Tech 5.  He is survived by his wife Nancy Van Dyke of Grant, his children Nancy & Cliff Harper of Howard City, Jean & Jack Todd of White Cloud, Susan & John Bogardus of Howard City, George Van Dyke of Sand Lake, Joe & Janet Van Dyke of Cedar Springs, Cheryl & Jim Bisard of Grant, Randy Johnson of Grant, David & Amanda Van Dyke of Ravenna,  25 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.  His brother Donald & Winifred Van Dyke of Sand Lake and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his daughter Joette Van Dyke in 1955, his brothers Jake Van Dyke, George Van Dyke and John VanDyke, and his sister Marie Cole.  Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM from the McKinley Funeral Home, Grant Chapel on Friday, May 16, 2008 with Pastor Rick Miller officiating. Interment in Hillside Cemetery near Grant. Visitation will be held 2-4 & 7-9 PM Thursday at the funeral home. For memorials please consider Hospice of Michigan.

Deepest sympathy to your family. I have missed both Joe sr. and Joe jr.at Dennen Steel where they both used to frequent, but it is especially sad to here of Joeseph sr. passing away. He was a kind, soft spoken, gentleman.
