Sam was a wonderful man, a great father, and not only my cousin, but one of my best friends. He will be sadly missed by all of his family. I especially commend Sam for the wonderful care he took of his mother, Bea, for so many years. I will never forget being awakened by Sam playing his drums when he was a teemager. I loved him dearly. I will miss you Sam, especially enjoyed the last few years watching the Tigers and Pistons with you and Bear (Tom Moore) & Marcus. The trips to Detroit and Chicago following the Tiger`s are some of my best times ever. Our baseball memories go all the way back to Little League with the Newaygo Jet`s & continued in High School with the varsity team. SAM WAS A LIVE WIRE. I WORKED FOR YEARS AT DIFFERENT LOCATIONS ON THE CSX RAILROAD AS A TRAIN DIRECTOR AND ALWAYS ENJOYED SEEING SAM SHOW UP. WE TALKED SPORTS (MSU GO GREEN!) AND ABOUT OUR FAMILIES. THE LAST TIME I SAW SAM,AT A TRACK MEET IN NEWAYGO, I MEET HIS DAUGHTER JENNA ( WHO IS FASTER THAN LIGHTING) AND BROTHER JOHN FROM SAN FRANCISCO. TIME MARCHES ON AS DO MEMORIES, SAM WILL ALWAYS BE LOCKED IN OUR HEARTS THANKS FOR BEING A FRIEND SAM. GOD BLESS. TOM REIGER
just wanted to let you know that i just heard about Sam.....he was so special and I wanted you to know how much I enjoyed spending time with him.....take care - I know you will all have wonderful memories of him - I will.
I can't remember when Sam and I were not friends. I am flooded by memories and heartsick I cannot attend my oldest friends service. I realize I've cried for myself and my loss , but I will always have him in my mind, and sorry for no future conversations (outdoors with his cigar were my favorites). Sam was a fierce competitor. In sports you always wanted him on your team. He had a sharp mind and sense of humor; and a rarity in this world, he was a good listener. Take what we can learn from this man. To the whole Shepherd Family heartfelt condolences
Dear Bea and family, It was with great sorrow that I heard of Sam's passing. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. I still have so many fond memories of the time I spent with Russ in the art arena. Pat and I are now living near Saugatuck Michigan. I am retired from teaching and doing my own artwork. Russ played a great role in nurturing my success with my art. Bea, if you ever need help or just someone to visit you, please call me, 269-561-8140. Sincerely, David Gacchina
When I seen the town of newaygo full of cars with hardly no empty spots to park, I remembered how great I felt when my dad passed away and there were so many people who came to his funeral. It made the day go a little easier. I hope that did the same for all of you. Our town is great when it comes to helping out our own. We all are so sorry that you had to go thru this at such a early age.Just know we are praying for you all.You are lucky to have such a great older brother who we know will help the rest of you get through the next few months and the holidays. Jonny Brandon really feels bad for you and Marcus Ryan wishes he could of been here. And Jenna you are a great coffee partner you are welcome at my house anytime.Matt this puts alot on your shoulders,But I know you can handle it.And also thanks for all your help with Justin. All our love to your family
