Mr. Robert Marlin Wolff, age 81 of Grant, died Wednesday, October 29, 2008 in the home where he was born and lived for most of his life. Born to Lettie Louisa (Thompson) and John G. Wolff on September 3, 1927, he married Inez A. Coon on August 22, 1953 in Grant, Michigan. A brick mason for Alstrom Construction for 30 years, he was a member of Bricklayers Local #5 and built many fireplaces in Grant area homes. He also enjoyed working with and coaching Grant Little League teams. A veteran, Bob served in the Army from 1951-1953, when he was discharged as a Private First Class. Robert is survived by his wife Inez Wolff, his daughters Linda and Michael Clark of Holland, Cynthia and Tim Hughes of Clare, Laurie Cunningham of Adrian, Mary Longcore and Dr. Jim Morgan of Okemos, Roberta and Troy Anderson of Hartland, and his son John and Molly Wolff of Arlington, VA; his grandchildren Landon, Jordan, and Carston Clark; Bryan (Trish), Megan, Kevin, and Aaron Hughes, Riley and Lexie Cunningham, Christine and Whit Longcore, and Olivia, Nicolas, and Aiden Anderson; his sisters Alverne Eady, Florence and Arlie Hibbs, and brother Carroll and Marge Wolff; several nieces and nephews, and many dear friends. He was preceded in death by his sisters Irene Sweet, Ivah Zerlaut, and Geraldine Peets. Over the years Bob was also helped by many loving health workers and caregivers deserving of thanks and gratitude. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM from the McKinley Funeral Home, Grant Chapel on Saturday, November 1, 2008. Interment in Ashland Center Cemetery. Visitation will be held 7-9 PM Friday and 1-2 PM Saturday. Dear Mr. Wolff I didn't know you personally, in fact I think I only met you the one time at Troy and Robi's wedding. That having been said, I can only imagine that you were a great person because I see the loving and caring person that Robi is to her husband and family. That is a direct reflection of your good teachings as a father. Robi and Troy I am truly sorry for your loss. There is nothing like the bond between a child and their father. I am sorry to read of Bob's death. I have many memories of him when he was a senior at Grant High School and he was the star varsity basketball player. Several of us freshmen played with him including Pudge Wolf and Burt Edwards, Fred Finkbeiner, and his brother Carroll. My thoughts and prayers are with Inez and his family.
